The Zomi Political Coordination Council (ZPCC) expresses its deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences on the passing of Pu Vungzagin Valte, Hon’ble MLA of the 56–Thanlon Assembly Constituency, former Minister in the Government of Manipur, and former Adviser to the Chief Minister.

Today, we mourn the loss of a respected leader, a committed public servant, and a son of Zogam whose life was devoted to the welfare of his people. Pu Vungzagin Valte carried the responsibilities of leadership with dignity, humility, and unwavering sincerity. Those who worked alongside him recognized in him a man of quiet strength, firm principles, and genuine concern for the aspirations of his community.

Throughout his public service, he remained steadfast in promoting development, unity, and responsible governance. He believed leadership required patience, dialogue, and mutual respect among communities. His conduct reflected maturity and a deep understanding of the complex realities of Manipur’s hills and valleys.

On 4 May 2023, Pu Vungzagin Valte was subjected to a violent attack by armed militia in Imphal while returning from the Chief Minister’s Bungalow during a period of unrest. The severe injuries he sustained that day resulted in prolonged suffering over the course of nearly three years. Throughout this difficult period, he endured his condition with resilience and dignity while awaiting justice and accountability for the perpetrators responsible for the attack. The long physical toll of that tragic incident ultimately led to his passing.

Among his lasting contributions was his persistent advocacy for the recognition of Zomi Nam Ni (Zomi National Day) as a Restricted Holiday in Manipur. His efforts toward this recognition were not merely symbolic; they affirmed the cultural dignity, historical identity, and rightful place of the Zo people within the constitutional framework of the state. That institutional milestone remains an enduring part of his public legacy.

Pu Vungzagin Valte was born Zomi, lived as Zomi, and served his people with clarity of identity and purpose. His life stands as a reminder that public office is a trust — one to be carried with integrity, responsibility, and faithfulness to one’s roots.

His passing leaves a profound void in public life and within the hearts of his family, constituents, colleagues, and the wider Zomi community. We honor his dedication, his service, and the values he represented.

In this time of grief, ZPCC extends its sincere condolences to his bereaved family, relatives, and the people of 56–Thanlon Assembly Constituency. May the Almighty grant them strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult hour.

Though he has departed from our midst, his commitment to his people and his contributions to identity and development will remain in enduring remembrance.

May his noble soul rest in eternal peace.
