The Zomi Research Institute (ZRI) is envisioned as a central hub for the preservation, advancement, and promotion of Zomi history, culture, language, and identity. Functioning under the guiding principles of the Zogam Charter and in alignment with the mission of the Zomi Political Coordination Council (ZPCC), the institute serves as both a scholarly body and a community-driven resource center. It aims to collect, document, and analyze historical records, oral traditions, cultural practices, and linguistic heritage of the Zomi people, ensuring these are safeguarded for future generations. ZRI also operates as a think tank to generate policy recommendations, academic research, and strategic initiatives that reinforce the rights, unity, and self-determination of the Zomi nation.
Beyond archival work, the Zomi Research Institute is dedicated to active research, education, and advocacy. It develops educational materials, publishes research papers, and provides training for young Zomi researchers, historians, linguists, and cultural activists. The institute works to bridge traditional Zomi knowledge with modern academic methodologies, fostering an environment where indigenous perspectives are not only preserved but also given academic recognition. This involves cooperation with local communities, international scholars, and global indigenous rights networks to ensure that Zomi voices and narratives are authentically represented in all areas of historical and cultural discourse.
ZRI’s mission is not limited to cultural preservation—it also plays a role in nation-building and policy shaping. By providing data-driven research on socio-political, economic, and cultural matters, it supports the ZPCC and other Zomi organizations in crafting informed decisions for the collective good. In doing so, ZRI acts as a guardian of the Zomi intellectual and cultural legacy, while also functioning as a forward-looking institution committed to empowering the next generation with knowledge, pride, and a clear vision for a Federated Zogam within a Federal Democratic Union of Myanmar.
